BUSHkids Annual Report 2019-20

ANNUAL REPORT 2019–2020

The Golf Day dinner also proved very successful with over 30 people attending the event to hear our guest speaker, Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Tracey Dobbie. Cr Dobbie gave a brilliant speech while the ever-popular East Street Singers again provided songs to keep all the diners entertained. The Golf Dinner auction was also a major fundraiser for BUSHkids Warwick. Unfortunately, COVID-19 restrictions necessarily caused us to halt events during the first half of 2020 but, as limitations begin to be relaxed, we hope to have FoBk events up and running to support BUSHkids in the near future. On a sad note, at the end of 2019, our FoBk Warwick Chair and long-time BUSHkids supporter, Ian Mace, resigned from his post. Ian will be sorely missed, and we would like to thank him for his contribution and dedication to helping BUSHkids in Warwick over so many years. Marianne Taylor, DSS Service Manager

Warwick • Friends of BUSHkids Despite the onset of COVID-19 restrictions, it has been a busy year with many events successfully held and popularly supported. Our major annual raffle fundraiser was run throughout the year with multiple selling opportunities at events and at the local Rose City Shopping Centre . A big thank you to our sponsors including Dreamworld , Darling Downs Zoo , the Yandina Ginger Factory , the Cobb and Co Museum and the Ipswich Rail Museum whose generous donation of prizes always make this raffle popular with the Warwick community. Our annual Golf Day was held on a beautiful Warwick winter day and, again, there was a fantastic turnout of golfers supporting the event and joining in the fun. Our thanks go out to everyone who supported us by taking part and a special thank-you to the members of The Warwick Sunshine Rotary Club who help organise the event and provided the sausage sizzle.

She is currently contributing to the review of the ADHD Parent Education groups to ensure they are user-friendly. She will soon lead the trial of a new Parentshop group program called No Scaredy Cats TM which aims to reduce anxiety and build resilience in children, promoting ‘resilience thinking’ skills, including parent engagement through education modules. Linda brings an acute awareness of social constructs to her work with a thorough understanding of domestic and family violence issues, child protection protocols and the impacts of chronic disadvantage and trauma on children and families. She employs family-centred principles of care, providing parents with feedback about their child’s functioning, raising any concerns observed in group sessions, and encouraging parents to continue skills learnt through programs to consolidate learning and strive for better outcomes. “This taught me to see my child’s needs rather than his tantrums … which makes me a stronger wiser kinder parent.”
