It’s great to see that Australia has finally discovered the delights of a good rosé and this new variety to Australia’s shores — ‘Blauer Portugieser’ — is placed to win over fans quicker than you can say “rosé”. Legend says the dark blueish grapes were brought back to Austria in 1772 from Portugal, adapted and became a hit across Central Europe and Germany – and still are today! The rich, sun-ripened grapes from the prime ‘Pfalz’ (Palatinate) wine-growing region are sure to expand your wine horizon, and dare you to try something deliciously different …

With its deep magenta colour and rich but not overpowering taste, this young new grape variety has been an easy-drinking hit in Germany since the 1950s, so popular that it rarely makes it to export markets!
