QCWA Annual Report 2018-2019
The Queensland Country Women’s Association • Annual Report 2018–2019
Her excitement was evident as she presented Country Kitchen members slices made by her Government House chef from CK cookbooks for our pleasure. The International Weekend followed and then home and a week later … Yeppoon. After our lovely ‘meet-and-greet’ in Yeppoon, I began my Regions Training Sessions with State President Christine (what we dubbed ‘The Royal Tour’ ), Capricorn Division the first to hear the information given that would hopefully have the whole state on the same page. I then talked my husband Geoff into coming west with me and we visited all the Central Western Division branches we could.
The kindness, generosity of spirit and hospitality displayed was wonderful. As all my Divisions have had ‘the Tour’ I thank their members all, as this was a two-edged sword: they learnt so much, as many admitted, but I know I learnt more about them and from them . I found myself part of the Queensland Delegation attending the ACWW Triennial Conference in Melbourne: a great learning curve I won’t forget, with such diversity of cultures and colourful national costumes; another great experience. In May it was back to State Office for a very busy SEB and then up to Cairns for an equally busy May Council. Life isn’t all QCWA but I have to say I have learnt so much about my Region and its diversity — who owns what and where it is … so many places I hadn’t been to and now have and so many lovely ladies I have now met. I am sure there isn’t a day that doesn’t have a QCWA component of some description, be it emails (like the 39 awaiting my attention as I write this), or phone calls while I am up to my elbows in lamb shanks being prepared for a Masonic Installation (or a wedding dress being created for a bride I promised a gown years ago), or driving some of the long distances I like to do. I am a ‘hands-on’ Vice-President and intend to visit as many of my branches as often as I can — if I am to act for, speak up for, and represent this Central Region then I must start by knowing it: so, ladies, here I come …!
STATEWIDE
I met some Winton ladies, who only weeks before had the floods through their properties and lost so much, and I was overwhelmed by their loyalty to the QCWA and that they came and met with us, as did representatives of most of the branches.
