QUEENSLAND'S GERMAN CONNECTIONS - PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

FORGING QUEENSLAND’S FUTURE

Blending the best of German engineering experience with Australian resourcefulness, Boulder Steel Limited is planning an integrated steel plant in the Aldoga Precinct of the Gladstone State Development Area. With a design capacity of five million tonnes a year, the facility is intended to produce semi-finished high grade steel for export to mills in Asia and the Middle East. A planned co-generation power station will use thermal energy from the blast furnace processes, making the facility a net exporter of electricity to the state grid.

The $4.4 billion Gladstone Steel Plant Project (GSPP) will also supply by-products to local construction firms, and generate an additional $1.1 billion in investments by third-party suppliers. Construction is expected to require 2,000 workers, with a further 1,800 jobs created on-site and in local support businesses once the plant is operational.
