RQYS MAINSHEET 2023
Academy insights
The importance of reporting head-knocks, whether from a flailing boom or otherwise, is strongly stressed, so even a small tumble is taken extremely seriously. It’s not hard to see that this is more than simply a duty-of care responsibility — it’s an ingrained part of the overall safety ethos evident across all parts of the Squadron. After a wrap-up of the status of the various fleets’ boats, there’s a few ‘housekeeping’ reminders and the briefing ends on an upbeat note with the redshirts streaming out to their groups’ designated lawns, ramps and marshalling areas. There, the banter is easygoing and chilled, but the respect in which Adrian and all his team are held is clearly evident. n
