RQYS MAINSHEET 2023
Crossed the Bar ~ Valé Terry Passey
VALÉ Terence Edward Passey RQYS Life Member
Terry was a significant part of the Squadron’s history, making many contributions to our community through various avenues, most notably his ongoing encouragement of young skippers with the donation of the ‘Most Improved Skipper’ Trophy, which Terry and the Passey family donated in 1982. Terry selflessly gave of his time to serve on the Works Committee, Sailing Committee and General Committee over many years. A skilled cabinet-maker, Terry crafted and donated a custom cabinet to display the Squadron’s trophies which are housed in the Cavill Building. Terry also helped build the Squadron’s original playground (where the current Reception and Administration building now stands). “TP’s” BBQ Pavilion was moved by Terry and his helpers to its current position. Terry was also regularly seen on the grounds of Canaipa, either repairing roofs, constructing BBQ shelters, picnic tables and bench seats or giving them a new coat of paint. Those who were fortunate to cross Terry’s path remember him in his early years as a competitive yachtsman sailing on Etchells, and with the team of Glen Schweitzer and Mike Davidson on the Division Yacht Foolish Behaviour . The legacies that Terry has left in the workmanship and the dedication he provided to the Squadron is a reminder of the generous time he gave for Members to enjoy and appreciate.
Terry is a very much missed member of the Squadron.
