YACHTSHARE CLUB MEMBER OF THE YEAR • DON MURRAY

Don has been a member of the Squadron for over 28 years. In his earlier years, he was Chair of the Sail Cruising Group, along with his wife, Jennifer. His love of sailing, and of the Squadron flowed onto another Volunteer role, learning the many skills required for good course management by investing his time on the Northern and Southern Courses. This included course-laying, pin boat, safety boat — or whatever was needed on weekends, for regattas, and for any level (club, state and international) of sailing events at any time, in any conditions, as all Volunteers know. Don has spent many hours in Ged’s Shed, repairing and sorting tackle, and has also served as a member of the House Committee.

In 2018 there was a hole that needed to be plugged on the WAGS start boat and he stepped away from being a participant to help form the team that still today is one of the most efficient and consistent at the Squadron. Paul and Nelly Bolton refer to him at their ‘Go-To’ guy, always on hand for the big and little things that complete the running of the “Vic Frizzell”. But it’s not just WAGS where his talents lie, it’s also the Property Industry Foundation (PIF) Regatta, Divisional Yachts and many OTB classes. Truly a worthy recipient of Club Member of the Year! n
