AWARDS & RESULTS

L–R: RQYS award winners Mitch Pearson, Louise Davis, Mat Belcher, Andrew Stransky (receiving award for Mara Stransky), Hugo Ralph and Shari O’Brien

Australian Sailing’s peak accolades saw RQYS well represented in the state awards, announced on 15th October, and again at national level in the virtual 25th November event.

A consortium of leadership teams, award nominees from sailing clubs across Queensland and the public gathered to celebrate alongside the successful award category winners. RQYS staff and sailors received five awards on the night, with Louise Davis picking up a sixth gong as Official of the Year. At the Australian Sailing 2021 national awards virtual ceremony, livestreamed on 25th November, Louise was again recognised within her category, as were Mat Belcher and Will Ryan in theirs, with Duncan Hine named as Offshore Sailor of the Year.

Queensland Sailing award categories winners included: • Female Sailor of the Year: Mara Stransky • Male Sailor of the Year: Mathew Belcher • Instructor of the Year: Shari O’Brien • Youth Sailor of the Year: Hugo Ralph • Sport Promotion Award: Mitch Pearson
