AWARDS

Marine Sports Volunteer Award Ged Glancy

Special Contributor Award Beryl Roberts

Alan Crawford Simply: Never. Says. No.

Beryl has been a constant throughout the Season, volunteering for both off-the- beach racing on Saturdays and Division yachts on Sundays. Beryl’s knowledge and experience is always appreciated by the Race Officers and the photos she takes while on the water are appreciated by the sailors. Beryl is always happy to help and does so with her infectious smile.

Ged was a valuable member for over 60 years, awarded Club Member of the Year in 2001 and Life Membership in 2016. He was here practically every weekend and was always happy to assist our new volunteers in getting to know the ropes. Ged’s love of sailing and the Squadron was something to remember, his passion unequalled. Sadly, Ged passed away in March 2021, doing what he loved: volunteering at the Squadron. He is greatly missed by us all.

AWARDS & RESULTS

Member Facilities Volunteer Award John Ward

Guy Morton For his continued dedication to race management for RQYS, in addition to mentoring, patience and enthusiasm for race management being done well John O’Brien John just won’t say “no” – if he sees there is a vacant spot on the roster he will put his hand up, and this is across all classes and types of boats. John is pedantic in his race management and will do his best to instruct everyone on board his boat and encourage new volunteers to “have a go” at any role. Cruising & Navigation Volunteer Award John Higgins John recently took on the role of Chair of the Power Cruising Group and has turned this group around after a period of limited cruises. He has built this group back up in numbers to make it the success it is today. He has catered and organised volunteers to assist multiple dinners and breakfasts at Canaipa for both Cruising and Navigation events, the most recent being the Myora and Goodwill Cups. He also oversaw the volunteers cooking the BBQ at the 30th Anniversary celebrations at Canaipa. He is a true asset to both the Cruising and Navigation Groups.

As skipper of Vic Frizzell , John puts in an amazing effort around the club mid-week maintaining our equipment and still backs up for his on-water duties every weekend.

Paul & Nellie Bolton In their long and continuous service of being the WAGS convenors. Paul and Nellie are here week after week, come rain, hail or shine (nearly – but not Strong Wind Warnings) to make sure our WAGS sailors get on the water.

Phil Tooth Together with his fellow volunteers, Phil has put in a massive effort on the refurbishment of the Shark Cats and Elliotts. His value to the club would be hard to estimate. Another one who backs up for his on-water duty every weekend. Don Murray The quiet achiever, providing amazing support to the Race Officers for both WAGS and Sailing events

Arthur Gough Another massive effort put in for the refurbishment of Shark Cats and Elliotts and, again, the material value to the club would be hard to quantify. Louise Davis Louise, as the club’s most experienced RO—and IRO—is a major part of why RQYS is held in such high esteem in terms of racing in all its forms. Louise sets the high standards—and the SIs and NORs are of a very high standard!—and then goes out of her way to ensure on-water requirements and activities run smoothly and professionally.
