Women on Water (WoW!)

FEATURE

SHE SAILS ~ WITH STYLISH VERVE! Women on Water (WoW!) @ RQYS Given the traditional appellation of boats with the female pronoun it’s entirely possible that, numerically, gentlemen may actually be in the minority around the Squadron, and here we tip the scales further by showcasing some women making a nautical mark of their own.

FEATURE • WoW!

Even closer to home is our own RQYS Sailing Academy team of Karyn Ralph and Lauren Whitford, each of them, with their respective preferences and interests, imparting knowledge and encouragement to upcoming ranks of young sailors and windsurfers. At the start of that process are coaches and instructors such as ‘Iron Annie’ Eastgate, whose sailing passions are already the stuff of early legend and actively exciting and training those coming after. At the other end of the scale, Victoria Logan is about to embark on the Sydney-to-Hobart, helming ‘Huntress’ in the classic race.

Mara Stansky’s amazing life journey afloat has recently been well told by her father Andrew in the December 2021 edition of AFLOAT magazine and her fine form and Laser Radial handling (and win!) in the recent ILCA 6 Worlds in Oman have lifted her global ranking to 7th on the way to achieving her olympian deams. Closer to home, the RQYS ‘Sailabration’ team of Tania Ryan (our Yachtshare Ambassador), Christine Morrison, Hayley Sanders and Catherine Davies finished a creditable 8th in the third annual Mooloolaba Women’s Keelboat Regatta at the end of October.
