Canaipa’s 30th anniversary
FEATURE
30 years of RQYS Canaipa Our jewel’s pearl of an anniversary Although 8th December 2020 was the actual anniversary of the official opening of RQYS Canaipa, COVID-19 delayed our celebration of this milestone until May this year—and what a celebration it was of this down-the-Bay jewel in the RQYS crown!
More than 350 members made their way down to Canaipa, some making use of two ferries provided by the Squadron from Manly, others taking the water taxi and many taking their own boats. Volunteers and staff put in a fantastic effort to ensure everyone had a great time, cooking and serving lunch and keeping the refreshments topped up. No-one went home hungry! It was such a great day, enjoyed by all who attended, that the plan now is to hold a ‘Canaipa Birthday’ each year, so please ensure you keep an eye on ‘In The Wind’ and our social media channels for the notice of the 2022 event. The Caretaker’s new cottage is nearing completion and the focus will now be directed to the development of the Long House project which will be established on the site of the old Caretaker’s house. To the many members who have so kindly donated to the development fund for these projects, we thank you very much for your generosity. A total of $367,581 has been raised so far which has allowed the Caretaker’s cottage to become a reality, and the balance will be directed towards seeing the Long House project come to fruition. So, if you have not already done so, please consider donating to this project which will enhance your future visits to Canaipa. Donations can be made direct to the Australian Sports Foundation and enable a tax-deductible receipt – every donation received will be greatly appreciated. RQYS Canaipa is a great place to visit at any time, so if you are a new Full Member of the Squadron, please take advantage of this fabulous down-the-Bay facility and make a visit soon.
