Laneways As with most modern cities, many of the small laneways in Brisbane have been retained during redevelopment and offer amazing hide-away places to visit, dine and drink. Primarily located in the CBD, Fortitude Valley and South Bank, think of tucked away speciality eateries along with some serious cocktail bars.

With the Brisbane River playing such a central role in the growth and development of the city, the Queensland Maritime Museum situated on the south side of the river and an easy walk from South Bank presents some of the city’s marine history.
Historical buildings and museums
Brisbane City has retained many of its original buildings within the CBD reflecting the establishment and growth of the city at the time and some now have heritage listed status. Many were government buildings such as Parliament House, the Old Government House, City Hall, Customs House and the Treasury Building, which now houses a casino and hotel.
Stroll through Fish Lane in South Bank (runs between Manning Street and Grey Street) and visit a long-time local favourite Julius Pizzeria on the Grey St corner. Try one of the local cocktail bars nearby for predinner drinks. Closer to Merivale Street is Chu the Phat offering delicious Asian fusion from their open kitchen. Fish Lane is also is a local arts precinct with artist studios and galleries to browse through. Fish Lane hosts an annual festival in May where small plates are available to sample from local food vendors.
Visitors can go aboard the ex-HMAS Diamantina , one of the last remaining WWII River-class frigates and experience life as it would have been for the crew operating in the cramped conditions. The museum also hosts specialist events and maritime exhibitions.
