Arriving at Bundaberg
View west over Burnett Heads entrance towards Bundaberg Port Marina
Bundaberg is also a Port of Entry for vessels entering Australia. Before arrival, contact Bundaberg Port Marina where all port clearance procedures are undertaken at an assigned dock in the marina. For vessels over 50m, there is a requirement for a pilot to be on board to come in towards the river entrance and surrounds. Refer to the Bundaberg Port Procedures and the relevant Beacon to Beacon Map where Burnett Heads is covered under Fraser Coast maps, Hervey Bay.

CS VMR 488 | “Marine Rescue Bundaberg”
Bundaberg Port Marina is located approximately 3km upstream from the river mouth and can accommodate vessels up to 30m on a marina berth and up to 40m on a commercial dock. The commercial dock is best for short stays such as guest pick-up or drop-offs. The maximum draft in the marina is 3m with access draft in the river up to 8m. Fuel is available 24 hours from the commercial dock with both diesel and unleaded available. Lifting services (to 75t) are available at the marina. For tenders coming into the river, the recommended pick-up and drop-off point is the marina, who will allocate a temporary berth. There is a public pier at the river mouth but it is not recommended as it is tidal and therefore shallow, plus it has a narrow entry point through a rather jagged low sea wall. Marine Rescue Bundaberg is located at the river entrance near to the public pier in the township of Burnett Heads. Although relatively isolated, the marina area at Burnett Heads has several marine services available within walking distance, including a well-stocked chandlery, talented marine engineers plus shipwright and survey services. Also close by is a couple of fresh seafood suppliers servicing both local and overseas markets, so grab some super-fresh Spanner Crabs if you have time.

The Port of Bundaberg is further upriver from the marina and operates as a full commercial port. The port has sugar terminals that can accommodate larger vessels with forward planning and pre-approval in place.
