Plentiful parklands at hand
Developed on the riverside site of EXPO 88, South Bank Parklands delivers a diverse range of attractions and activities. Originally a warehouse district south of the river, post-Expo it was completely redeveloped as a public space. The actual parklands cover 17 hectares on the riverfront, with a large man-made ‘beach lagoon’ as a swimming facility complete with sand, playgrounds,

Bordered by the Brisbane River, the City Botanic Gardens on Alice Street in the CBD is a heritage-listed public garden. Also known as Queens Park, it features the Bamboo Grove and Weeping Fig Avenue plus has natural mangrove beds in the river mud. Alongside the river, joggers and cyclists exercise on the new City Botanic Gardens Riverwalk which also includes new pontoon hubs for recreational vessels to use for pick- up and drop-off, or stay for up to two hours without a booking using the inner fingers of the pontoon.

New Farm Park
New Farm Park is a great spot on the river to relax and picnic on the grass, browse weekend markets and visit the Brisbane Powerhouse. The park receives many visitors on weekends and, at 37 hectares, there is still ample space to find a spot after grabbing some coffees from local cafés. Jan Powers Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning from 6am to 12 noon championing farmers, growers and producers from the local growing areas around regional Brisbane. Brisbane Powerhouse offers something for everyone hosting edgy theatre, comedy, film, outdoor exhibitions and more. Accessible by the river using the New Farm Park River Hub .
The one-kilometre-long Arbour Walk features a steel structure almost completely clad in vibrant magenta bougainvillea and the Rainforest Walk is where visitors can experience a canopy of tropical trees. For those wanting a longer hike, tackle the Clem Jones Promenade, the full riverside walk starting from the Victoria Bridge in the arts precinct through the parklands, past the Maritime Museum where it then joins the Cliff Boardwalk under the Kangaroo Point cliffs.
