QCWA Annual Report 2018-2019
Annual Report 2018–2019 • The Queensland Country Women’s Association
STATE COOKERY REPORT Kath Brown
Can I ask entrants to please read the rules, as they may change from year to year? We are trying to iron out the confusions that we have throughout the year. As we now have set recipes, these can also change from year to year. The recipes we use (except for Country Kitchens ) are those from QCWA competitions of years gone by, as we do have a challenge with copyright. These have been tested for years: ladies, you do need to adjust liquid in any recipe as the flour can vary in absorption rates, depending on the moisture content of the flour when milled. This is part of being a baker of cakes! We have donated $500 to State Office for the card machine, and I’m sorry to say we had no entries in the bursary we offered. I regret to say our Committee is dwindling due to ill health and availability of members. We had one new member this year but need more! Also, we need more committee members to keep our competition going and to have a diverse set of ideas to keep our competition interesting.
It is with much pleasure I give the 60th Annual report. We had four meetings though the year with an average of four members attending each meeting, with another by phone. As the committee is spread out, right across the state, this is a pretty good outcome, as we only have six on our Committee. I also keep in touch with our members via email, which allows us to discuss issues when needed. The 2018 Conference was successful, with 835 branch entries and 513 division entries; eligible entries for State level were 219 and 169, respectively. Income from branches was $3,923.60, from divisions $2,207.81. We do still have trouble with branches and divisions not sending the money from the sale of their competition on to the Cookery Committee. As the front page says, ‘please send to the Cookery Treasurer’. This year, all moneys go straight to the State Cookery Committee: the BSB and account numbers are clearly stated on the forms.
