STATE DRESSMAKING REPORT Mrs Lesa Bradshaw
The committee has maintained its numbers and now stands at 10, and I thank all those who have come forward to assist in making this a continuing success for our Association. The 2018 year saw a total of 66 entries from across the state. It is necessary to continue to review the schedule to keep it relevant for our members. Further attention to the number of entries in each class will be taken during 2019. Unfortunately, garments arrived at the State Conference in Brisbane lacking important information – such as entrant’s name and branch. A new label was circulated this year to alleviate this problem. We sincerely thank those ladies who support us each year and welcome any new entrants to the competition. The 2018–19 schedule has been amended to vary the competition and hopefully stimulate some more entries overall. The Champion Garment prize this year was won by Lyn Forrest of Emu Park Branch with a girl’s two-piece summer outfit and matching hat – congratulations to Lyn, but as always, all entrants are winners.
Once again, the display boards at the State Conference have proven to be most effective. An overlocker was raffled at the 2018 conference to fundraise for the Committee activities. Bernina Australia once again sponsored the champion prize for 2018. Other sponsors were approached including fabric retailers, wholesalers and other sewing suppliers. For the first time the committee hosted a stall to assist with fundraising through the sale of items. These were of high quality and sales proved to be successful. Financing these competitions will always be a challenge and I hope that we see continued support from sponsors to ensure the ongoing success of the annual competition.
