QCWA Annual Report 2018-2019
Annual Report 2018–2019 • The Queensland Country Women’s Association
The handbooks which have been updated are available for purchase. The committee has decided not to continue with the Art Union, instead offering daily raffle tickets throughout Conference. Our donations for the year include $500 to the Bouncing Back program and $250 each to the State International Officer and SV-P Southern Region accounts. The committee sincerely thanks Freda Garret as she stepped down from her role of Chairman over the past six years; also to Nola Webb for her many skills on the executive and May Boyd as member. We have welcomed a new committee member and would like to hear from more members interested in being involved. As Chairman I attended the State Committees meeting in Brisbane and, with committee members, two meet-ups during the year. For those not possible, being in touch by emails has made committee work very manageable. Thank-you to committee members Treasurer Joanne Rye, Secretary Joyce Libke, V-P Marlene Sharpley, Beryl Bosworth and Veronica Bailey for their commitment to the contest and also to the Division Convenors for taking on this role in your divisions: without your encouragement to members there would be no contest. Good luck and best wishes to all entrants in this year’s competition!
STATE FLORAL ART REPORT Carol Jackson
Floral Art entries to State Conference 2018 in Brisbane were amazing with 74 at State level, throughout the year 190 entries at Division and 333 at Branch level; overall, 13 divisions took part. Thank-you to all competitors throughout the state in making such a wonderful display for your branches and divisions! The Champion Arrangement was won by Shirley Baldwin from Hinkler with her ‘Song Title Arrangement.’ The Art Union prize of $400 was won by Avis Hannah (Tewantin/Noosa Branch). The Committee also displayed 40 years of the Floral Art competition of the Association. Thank-you to our sponsors for their much- appreciated contributions towards prize money. This year the Modern category has been deleted and for 2020 there have been several alterations, so please note the changes. An addition to the schedule is a Novice section which we hope will bring about more interest and encourage more entries. We have also reduced the return forms to two, saving paperwork, and have raised the contest entry to 50c.
