North Western Division has 10 branches and is forging ahead and looking to the future. We are particularly aware of inclusivity and welcome members of all cultural and language backgrounds and hope that the New Year will bring even more women into friendship and community service with the QCWA. Our Office-bearers this year have included Georgina Westlund – President; Annie Backhaus - Vice-President; Kayleen Sloman - Vice-President; Judy Fysh – Secretary; Nyssa Currin – Treasurer; Ann Britton - Publicity and Marketing Officer; Annie Clark - International Officer; Lyn Clout - Property Convener and, most recently, Kalinda Cluff - Agricultural and Environment Convener, who is also representing our Division on the QCWA State Agricultural and Environment Committee. It is with pride that I thank all members for their contribution to our communities and the Association over the past year, particularly with the challenges of the multiple community organisations to which they are already committed. Thank-you to State President Christine King, and the equally hard-working Northern Region Vice-President Marie Baulch, who responded amazingly well to our communities’ needs over the February 2019 monsoonal weather event that impacted all corners of our division in one way or another.

We were able to provide immediate access to funds when our community members found themselves without an income, vehicles, food, or money to pay for their children’s school uniforms or camp. To all who were equally generous to our members and community over the year, we are eternally grateful. These include contributions from individuals and QCWA branches across the state and other not-for-profit organisations. A special thank-you to South32 for the $25,000 donation to our division for Mental Health activities in the shires most impacted by the February floods, and yo the Premier of Queensland’s $50,000 donation to be spent across the division to assist our recovery and meet local needs. Kind regards to all members as you strive to be helpful, be positive and be seen!

Members of all our branches are working to the best of their abilities, with buildings to maintain and support for as many of the competitions and projects as able. There has been much use of the grants as they come available. Branches have made use of grants to improve cottages, kitchens, replacing stumps under halls and acquiring appliances for the executive of branch and division officers. We are working on completing a grant application to reroof and paint the exterior of the Slade Point property which houses the Pioneer Division Office. Division received sponsorship from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal towards the cost of hiring a bus to transport members to Atherton to attend the Northern Region Conference.

Another sponsorship came from Wilmar Sugar to provide prize money for all finals of competitions to Division-level. Mackay Airport donated money to buy a new refrigerator for one of our halls. Some branches are finding it difficult to fill all positions, but they have assured me they will fill them in the very near future.
