Many of our branches have been lucky enough to receive grants to renovate or upgrade facilities this year, including recipients of the Premier’s Million Dollar Grant . Some halls received renovations through branch-accumulated funds. Many branches also hosted Biggest Morning Tea/ Cuppa for Cancer events in their towns. Other activities included International Days , competition days, Melbourne Cup functions, markets, tombolas, cent sales, pub and other raffles, stalls at the handmade markets and Bunnings sausage-sizzles/cake stalls. Donations were given to such organisations as Life Flight , Angel Flight , Rotary House , RFDS , the PRCF, Pennies for Friendship and community groups such as Scouts, Guides, SES and the Rural Fire Service. Burnett held a Division International Day hosted by Oakwood Branch, contest days, ‘roving Executive meetings’, Women Walk the World Days , International Rural Women’s Day , participated in ANZAC Day and held days to support the State Health Awareness Program as well as collecting for DV Connect . A number of branches give bursaries to local schools and donate books to school libraries on special occasions throughout the year. Members have attended division training workshops, the President’s Workshop , International Weekends , and more. We plan to have Division Workshops in place for the coming year.

As usual, the International Country of Study has been of great interest to members and most branches have held International Days and entered the various competitions. Burnett Division has been represented on more than half-a-dozen State Committees and, of course, Jan Street was SV-P Central Region! Highlights of the year have been many, but all include members working together for their communities and our association, at a grassroots level in ‘Memberland’ where members excel and really enjoy themselves and feel this is why they joined QCWA!

The year has been a busy one. It started with a call to the fundraiser ‘Stomp the Crack’ at The Great Western Hotel with all proceeds from the event going to the PRCF. The National Gemstone ‘Gemboree’ held a Trivia Night over Easter. This included an auction of set and unset gemstones with the proceeds also to the PRCF. The 2018 State Conference was attended by 17 of our members. Friendships are formed at these annual events, which last a lifetime. I would like to thank the State Executive, State Office and Country Kitchens staff and members for their support over the past year. Members helped make sandwiches for the Special Children’s Party in November followed by our annual Christmas Cent Sale . Members provided sale and multi- draw prizes and an array of sandwiches, slices and cake for afternoon tea. An enjoyable afternoon for all!

Flyers (1,000) flyers and labels for bottled water (another 1,000!) were organised to advertise the ‘meet-and- greet’ in Yeppoon and promote QCWA with the aim of forming a new Branch. The ‘Yeppoon Seasiders Group’ has formed under the umbrella of the division. The Division held a food stall at the Rockhampton Show, along with a QCWA and a Country Kitchens Display. Freshly-made sandwiches, scones, jam and cream, slices and cakes were a big hit.
