International students from Germany visiting Queensland and Australia, for the five years ending 2010–11

Although, in 2010-11, international student enrolments from Germany in Queensland declined by 11.3% to 2,212 students, it is interesting to note the higher education sector has reached a five-year high, with Queensland accounting for one-quarter of the German enrolments, and, overall, one-third of the total number of German students studying Down Under.

International visitors from Germany, by reason for journey, for the five years ending 2010–11

International visitors to Queensland from Germany eased by 4.9%, to 77,332 tourists in 2010–11, mostly in the VFR (visiting friends and relatives) category. Holiday travel has also eased back to 2007-06 numbers, but business and employment vists to Queensland from Germany are at their highest level in five years. Substantially over half of all German visits to Australia are to, or include, Queensland. German visitors account for 4% of total international visitors to Queensland and, although their total spend of $152m in calendar year 2011 was down 9%, German visitors spend 11% more (average almost $2,200 per person) than other
