Queensland’s major merchandise imports from Germany, nominal value and contribution % in order of highest imports in 2010–11, five years to 2010–11

In 2010-11, major import items included vehicles ($414.9m), machinery for particular industries ($184.1m), general industrial machinery ($124.6m), electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances, parts ($86.8m), and power-generating machinery and equipment ($51.1m). Motor vehicles maintain a steady annual average value of around $400m, or just under one-third of Queensland’s total imports from Germany. Provisional 2011-12 figures show a substantial (27.8%) increase in imports from Germany to $1.6b, largely in specialist, industrial and electrical machinery classes, which may reflect the latest orders of TBM equipment for Brisbane’s Legacy Way tunnel. By value, Germany is now Queensland’s 7th largest source of imports.
