RQYS MAINSHEET 2023

Volunteers ~ special thanks!

Valued Volunteers are our vital backbone All levels of sailing are catered for, from small dinghies to Division Yachts: can you give some time, afloat or ashore? ‘Team RQYS Volunteers’ are a very special group of people from all walks of life who, by committing some of their time, enable our sailing to function smoothly, writes Phil Tooth. The racing and events they help run, on- and off-shore, are world-class and deservedly renowned by Squadron visitors from interstate and overseas.

Our Volunteers show a keen interest in our Club and quite a few are old hands at sailing as well as newcomers and parents that love being involved, be it race officers, time-keepers, finishers or helping to lay the course marks and pulling buoys or moving them when the wind changes. Safety is paramount and they keep the standards of RQYS race management legendary! Our onshore Volunteers do an amazing job including manning the radio and the organising and maintenance of club equipment.

CAN YOU LEND A HAND? Full training is provided and together with mentoring allows our Volunteers to reach their full potential — and all this in an exciting environment! So if you are new to the sport or someone who just wants to be out on the water doing something really worthwhile, contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator Phil Tooth: M 0409 586 757 E volunteers@rqys.com.au
