The historic city of Bundaberg is known as a major sugarcane-growing area and, by extension, for its namesake export: Bundaberg Rum. The Bundaberg region also grows other crops and supplies 25% of the nation’s fresh produce. A city of just 70,000, Bundaberg operates as a gateway for tourism for locally-based attractions, inland national parks and offshore experiences accessing the Southern Great Barrier Reef. It lies on the Burnett River, about 25km inland. Named in the 1860s, Bundaberg is a combination of an Aboriginal term ‘bunda’ and the Anglo-Saxon or German term ‘berg’ for town. The Port of Bundaberg and Bundaberg Port Marina are located at the mouth of the Burnett River, a 15-20 minute drive from the city centre. Bundaberg and beyond

Bundaberg Airport is a domestic airport with flights to Brisbane and regional centres. It is located on the southwestern edge of the city: a 25-minute drive from the marina and a 12-15-minute drive from the city centre.

Immersive attractions Besides easy access to the Southern Barrier Reef islands of Lady Musgrave Island and Lady Elliot Island (as detailed above under Gladstone), Bundaberg has numerous local attractions which are easy to visit in a packed day of activities as many are short distances from one another.

If local transportation is required, arrange through the team at Bundaberg Port Marina who operate as on-the- ground agents for visiting superyachts. Lady Musgrave Experience is also based at the marina and are on the spot to provide tours, dive guides, support and advice for visiting superyachts.
