Wreck diving on ex-HMAS Brisbane This artificial reef about 20NM offshore from Mooloolaba was created by the decommissioning and subsequent scuttling of the Australian warship in mid-2005. The ex-HMAS Brisbane is known as one of the world’s best wreck sites and is suitable for open water certified divers and above with a depth range of 15-28 metres. Marine species typically encountered in and around the reef include turtles, rays, corals, squids and a range of local fish such as Queensland groupers. parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/ex-hmas-brisbane/ about Dive operators also offer beginner dives in shallower waters, dives on local reefs, night dives and even shark dives! Sunreef Mooloolaba is located at The Wharf Mooloolaba and offer a full range of dive experiences.
Surfing As one of the few north-facing beaches on the Australian east coast, Noosa Main Beach is popular with surfers and families alike, providing safe and calm waters for all. Known for its series of ‘point breaks’ and breathtaking views from the water, the length of Main Beach is paralleled by the Hastings Street shopping precinct. The Noosa Surf Life Saving Club is based at Main Beach and typically patrols at the National Park end. Boards are available to rent on the beach. Sunshine Beach is a short 5-minute drive from Noosa and faces directly east, offering bigger surf conditions with more space between the waves. Coolum and other beaches heading south back toward Mooloolaba are easy to access from the road through the sand dunes and are perfect for long walks offering plenty of space. visitsunshinecoast.com/Noosa-Main-Beach
