MAIN BEACH • SOUTHPORT • THE SPIT
Federation Walk Coastal Reserve at the northern end of The Spit.
Established in the 1970s, Sea World offers multiple experiences for visitors through its oceanarium, marine mammal park and up-close encounters with wildlife. It also has a theme park and a resort hotel. Sea World has a genuine commitment to marine research and rescue and holds educational presentations onsite. The complex is huge and is linked by a monorail between the theme park and the Sea World Water Resort . seaworld.com.au seaworld.com.au/resort
The Federation Walk Coastal Reserve borders The Broadwater and makes a clean break from the built-up area as it stretches towards The Spit and Doug Jennings Park. It’s an easy walk across the sand dunes onto the surf beach. There is a very dog-friendly stretch of beach at the top end by the pier with rinse-off bays for the pooches too. tinyurl.com/Federation-Walk-reserve Visitors to this area can snorkel and dive in and around the Broadwater, the Seaway and at Wave Break Island as there is a lot to see. The Seaway on its own has five dive sites within the one area. There are wrecks such as the Scottish Prince and artificial reefs to dive on too. Book a private dive tour with an experienced local dive operator .
Offshore fishing charters are available through different operators for both day trips and overnight. Private tours or longer trips can also be arranged. tinyurl.com/destinationgoldcoast-dive-snorkel
