GOLD COAST
Currumbin Currumbin Beach stretches from the southern point of the Currumbin Creek waterway, which has its origins from the native rainforests much further inland, down to North Kirra Beach. The creek spills out into the Pacific Ocean through an ‘alley’ which is a protected and patrolled area, with the flat waters making it perfect for kayaking and SUP activities. Fishing in this alley area can bring in Flathead and Bream and even Taylor can be caught off the beach. Surfing at Currumbin Beach is popular, possibly due to its right-hand surf break sought by longboard riders.
The Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club sits atop Elephant Rock and visitors can enjoy refreshments on the open air balcony. Today there is a steep walkway to reach a viewing platform on top of the rock with sweeping views up and down the coastline. On ANZAC Day (Australia’s National Day of Remembrance) recognised on 25 April every year, Currumbin Beach is home to one of Australia’s most iconic Dawn Services where thousands gather to pay respects with Elephant Rock as the central point and with a lone bagpiper playing atop. currumbinslsc.com.au
