GOLD COAST

Arriving at the Gold Coast

Located halfway between Sydney and Cairns, the Gold Coast is the perfect place for a superyacht to stop en route whether to enjoy a few days at the beach and other attractions, or for a longer stay utilising some of the best refit and repair yards the Asia-Pacific region has to offer. The waterways of the Gold Coast are administered by the Gold Coast Waterways Authority (GCWA) and Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) both based in Southport. The Port Procedures for Southport from MSQ covers all details on entering the Gold Coast Seaway including the different approaches before arriving at the entrance. The port procedures document is available section-by-section or can be downloaded as a complete pdf document . gcwa.qld.gov.au msq.qld.gov.au msq.qld.gov.au/Shipping/Port-procedures/Port-procedures-southport tinyurl.com/southport-procedures_complete GCWA in collaboration with MSQ and City of Gold Coast has published a Gold Coast Superyacht Guide as a quick- reference guide to bringing vessels into the local waterways. gcwa.qld.gov.au/gold-coast-puts-out-welcome-mat-for-superyachts The Beacon to Beacon boating maps for the Gold Coast are divided into northern and southern areas. The key map is the northern map which ranges from South Stradbroke Island, the Coomera River area and Hope Island down to the North Channel of the Broadwater, through to Wave Break Island, the Gold Coast Seaway, The Spit, Main Beach, and the South Channel of the Broadwater into Southport. The southern guide covers the Nerang River waterways including canal developments that run inland behind the coast and the creek exits for Tallebudgera and Currumbin. msq.qld.gov.au/Boating-maps/Gold-Coast-guides Pilotage requirements for Southport are defined on the MSQ website both in writing and also outlined on a map. Pilots are required for all vessels 50m or longer with the maximum length of a vessel that can enter The Gold Coast Seaway set at 65m. Yachts with longer waterlines than 65m will be considered on a risk-based assessment. To request consideration for a larger vessel to visit, contact the local MSQ office in Southport either directly or through a local vessel agent or
