The Darling Downs Division is in its 74th year and on 14 December will celebrate 75 years. There have been two outstanding qualities in this region this year: resilience and generosity. There are many challenges facing the Division and the ladies have been able to re-establish QCWA’s presence in the centre of Toowoomba and on the Darling Downs and for the future for all. After 92 years, this year we saw the closure of Norwin Branch, but the good news is the Norwin QCWA Hall is now housed in Cecil Plains at the Historial Group grounds and still in use. Highlights included ‘The Harvey Norman Helping Hand’ and ‘Paul Murray Live’ in Toowoomba. The money raised from these ventures went to four sporting clubs in the region to assist families in those drought areas with expenses and fees including uniforms to enable children to continue to play sport and socialise, as well as providing fuel vouchers to over 50 families and individuals in the region. Thank-you to the Harvey Norman team, Sky News and Paul Murray , it was a huge success in so many ways!

Some of the activities and events the Division has been involved in this year include: State Conference • State Contests • hosting a theatre night • Handcraft Schools • Countries of Study (Germany and Lithuania) • ANZAC Day wreath-laying • networking with other NGOs/NFPs • entering a float in the Carnival of Flowers • Country Kitchen workshops for the refugee community and Oak Tree community and at Farmfest • World Knitting Day • and raising $51,000.00 for PRCF. The demographic diversity of our branches affords members the opportunity to participate in many and varied activities. It has been a busy year for all: well done ladies, and thank-you for your contribution to QCWA and to your community.
